York Maze is pleased to partner with Nimbus Disability and Access Card

Nimbus+AC_Duo logo_RGB (2)
We are pleased to partner with Nimbus Disability, using their Access Card Scheme to provide our visitors with a consistent and improved experience when accessing necessary support.

Nimbus Disability is a social enterprise and an organisation run by and for disabled people and is recognised as a lead authority on accessible ticketing in the UK.

The scheme is available to visitors that require support, such as an essential companion ticket or Mobility/Wheelchair user ticket. All visitors requiring these access provisions can apply via Nimbus to have their individual access requirements validated so we can not only provide reasonable adjustments, but protect them from potential misuse.

Already have an Access Card? You’re sorted! Have a look at our FAQs below for next steps

1What is the difference between an Access Card and a York Maze Digital Access Pass?

An Access Card is recognised at over 2,000 venues throughout the UK and beyond. Including days out, cinema trips, holidays, festivals, spectator sport and more. You can purchase an Access Card for £15. Once you have the card, you can use this across any of the recognised venues without the need to apply again for each venue. The card is valid for 3 years.

A York Maze Digital Access Pass is a FREE way of conveying your access requirements. You still go through the same process of submitting your documentation, but you’ll receive a digital number and no card. This is only valid at York Maze and cannot be used at other venues.

Applications can take 10 days to be processed.
York Maze tickets will be on sale from Wednesday 11th March

2Who is eligible for an Essential Companion Ticket?

An Essential Companion ticket is available for people where support is needed that is significant and substantial and in excess of what could be reasonably expected of family/friends already accompanying the guest. The support must be due to disability-related needs.

Our Essential Companion Scheme is not available to complimentary ticket holders or when zero value entry is applicable for the Access Card/ York Maze DAP holder (including children aged 2 or under who enter free of charge).

York Maze partners with Nimbus Disability, operators of the Access Card scheme, to assess and manage applications for our Essential Companion tickets. Nimbus Disability is one of the country’s leading providers of disability-related advice and support to professional organisations and is recognised as a lead authority on accessible ticketing in the UK. They are an award-winning organisation run by disabled people who specialise in the legislation behind The Equality Act.

Please note that we do not make the decisions on who is entitled to an “Essential Companion”. This decision is made by Nimbus Disability. Find out more here: https://accesscard.hiverkb.com/policies-on-symbol-allocation/child-essential-companion-tickets-and-our-allocation-of-the-1-symbol

3How do I book my Essential Companion Ticket?

Once you have your Access Card or your York Maze Digital Access Pass Number (found on your confirmation email) you can follow the booking links on our website as normal. When it comes to selecting “ticket type” you will need to select “Essential Companion”, the system will then ask you to unlock the half price ticket by inputting your Access Card/ York Maze DAP I.D number. If your Access Card permits an “Essential Companion” then this will be applied and you can then proceed with your booking. You will be required to show proof of the Access Card or York Maze Digital Access Pass on admissions.

Please note that we do not make the decisions on who is entitled to an “Essential Companion”. This decision is made by Nimbus Disability.

4Who is eligible for a Reduced Mobility/ Wheelchair user ticket?

The site as a whole is accessible for visitors who struggle with short distances. Many of the other activities involve steps and/or physical activity. Visitors with additional access requirements that have the Level Access (Wheelchair) or Distances symbols (<50m) detailed on their Access Card/ York Maze DAP can purchase the Reduced Mobility/ Wheelchair user ticket

York Maze partners with Nimbus Disability, operators of the Access Card scheme, to assess and manage applications for our Reduced Mobility/ Wheelchair user tickets. Nimbus Disability is one of the country’s leading providers of disability-related advice and support to professional organisations and is recognised as a lead authority on accessible ticketing in the UK. They are an award-winning organisation run by disabled people who specialise in the legislation behind The Equality Act.

Please note that we do not make the decisions on who is entitled to Level Access or Distances symbols. This decision is made by Nimbus Disability. Find out more here:
https://accesscard.hiverkb.com/policies-on-symbol-allocation/level-access

5How do I book a ‘Reduced Mobility/Wheelchair user’ ticket?

If your Access Card or your York Maze Digital Access Pass details the Level Access or Distances symbols, you can follow the booking links on our website as normal. When it comes to selecting “ticket type” you will need to select “Reduced Mobility/Wheelchair user”, the system will then ask you to input your Access Card/ York Maze DAP I.D number. You will be required to show proof of the Access Card or York Maze Digital Access Pass on admissions.

Please note that we do not make the decisions on who is entitled to Level Access or Distances symbols. This decision is made by Nimbus Disability.

6When do I need to apply?

You can apply for the York Maze Digital Access Pass (DAP) and the full Access Card at any time before your visit. The passes last for three years.

Applications can take 10 days to be processed. You will need your Nimbus confirmation number to access Essential Companion & Mobility/Wheelchair user tickets on the York Maze website.

7Why is the process changing and how does this benefit me?

We recognise that our Corn Crew are not experts in the Equality Act and this is a way to ensure we can meet all our guests’ requirements across our site, in a consistent way. This is why working with Nimbus we can use their recognised and award-winning scheme to enable us to provide a great and accessible experience.

The system offers greater privacy, as disabled people with access requirements will no longer need to carry supporting documents or explain circumstances to the team. You’ll only need to supply the information once when you register for an Access Card. You’ll need to show your York Maze DAP (Digital Access Pass) or Access Card on admissions, but this carries no sensitive information.

Our commitment to accessibility remains unchanged. Our Corn Crew are still here to support you if you have any questions or need assistance. For further support, please email info@yorkmaze.com.

8Young Carers

It is the policy of York Maze that all children under the age of 16 years must be accompanied by a responsible person aged 17 or over at all times. We understand that young carers are a much valued and needed source of support, but we are only able to accept them under the Essential Companion ticket scheme where there is no risk of them being left unattended.

If we feel that either the visitor with access requirements or their Companions are abusing the Essential Companion ticket scheme we reserve the right to refuse access under the Essential Companion ticket scheme for future visits.

9Who is Nimbus Disability?

We’ve chosen to pass the registration scheme onto the same organisation that runs the ‘Access Card’. Nimbus Disability is a social enterprise and an organisation run by and for disabled people and is recognised as a lead authority on accessible ticketing in the UK.

When you register, Nimbus Disability will handle all your information securely and safely without us ever having cause to see the detail behind why you need accessible options.

Once you’ve registered, Nimbus will then provide you with a unique registration number which you can then use to link your access needs into our system.

If you are not able to use online forms and would be unable, because of the nature of your impairment, to access online sales you do still need to register. Nimbus will be able to assist with postal or telephone registration on 0330 808 5108.

10How do I contact Nimbus Disability?

If you're a disabled person with a query about the Access Card please visit www.accesscard.online, email cards@accesscard.online or call the Access Card team on 0330 808 5108.

11What if I don't have an Access Card or York Maze DAP before I visit?

No worries, we understand sometimes the applications can be delayed. If you have your tickets booked online and turn up without the Access Card or York Maze DAP, you will need to pay the difference to a full price ticket at admissions. If you apply and are successful for the Access Card/ York Maze DAP showing the relevant symbols, you can apply for a refund. On admissions, you will be given a card with all the information to apply for the Access Card/York Maze DAP and refund. Please note, you have 2 weeks to apply for the refund.

PARKING

All parking at York Maze is free. Blue Badge parking is available on the first two rows next to the entrance.

ASSISTANCE DOGS

Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times. Please clear up after your dog. You can take your dog through the Maize Mazes and on the Crowmania Ride but please be aware that water spray and loud noises on the ride may not suit your dog's temperament, if in doubt please speak to a member of the Corn Crew at the Crowmania ride. Dogs are not allowed in the House of Cornfusion, Pharaoh's Cornquest, or in/on the Mineshaft Maze, play areas, slides etc.

TOILETS AND BABY CHANGING

There are accessible toilets and baby changing facilities, accessible to everyone in all of our toilet areas.

WHEELCHAIR USERS

The site as a whole is suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. However the paths around the site are not tarmacked, they are stone or gravel in many places so may be a bit bumpy. We have level access into the Terrace Cafe and Fodder Barn, and disabled toilets (with a very large disabled toilet down by Corn Central). The giant Maize Maze, Jurassic Maize, Sunflower Fortune Maze and Musical Maze have paths made of compacted soil, so these paths are normally fine for wheelchairs and pushchairs but can become muddy in places after rain. The viewing towers in the giant Maize Maze are not accessible, but you do not need to go on them to complete the maze. The Crowmania Tractor Trailer Ride has an adapted trailer with space for wheelchair users. All of our shows are accessible. Unfortunately many of the other activities involve steps and/or physical activity, which means it is not possible to access them in a wheelchair.

GUESTS WITH LEARNING DISABILITIES & VIRTUAL QUEUES

A visit to York Maze is a multi-sensory and interactive experience. Please take all the time you need. The Corn Crew are more than happy to answer any questions during your visit!

With a limited number of visitors each day queues do not generally get overly long. However if your needs mean you are unable to queue please speak to the Corn Team member at the attraction about virtual queuing, they will give you a time to return for fast track access. Sorry but due to the layout of Pharaohs Cornquest and Cobsleighs it is not possible to offer virtual queuing at these attractions.

ALLERGIES

All of our food is prepared on-site in a kitchen that handles all allergens. For information about ingredients please ask a member of our catering team.
